Eco Shield TM radiant barrier is a reflective insulation system offering a permanent way to absorb and transfer heat through our roofs. It is used in the roof construction of residential, commercial and industrial buildings to reduce heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter, thus adding to our comfort levels when indoors and minimising the usage of energy for heating or cooling.
Infraset’s Eco Shield roofing is the greener solution for homes. For domestic, commercial and light industrial installation, this reflective insulation system offers a permanent way to absorb and transfer heat through our roofs. This effective temperature management regulates temperature for comfort and minimizes the use of energy resources. Reduced heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter results in effective cost savings and reduction of CO2 emissions, therefore less fossil fuel is used. The Eco Shield TM radiant barrier is eco-friendly, allowing us to live ‘greener’.
Overview of Eco Shield
Cool, comfortable and energy efficient
South African homes and commercial buildings often are not adequately adapted to huge fluctuations in temperatures. Yet in many areas of our country the difference between summer and winter temperatures is vast. As this has an effect on our comfort levels, effective temperature management is vital. In addition, given the current energy crisis and ever- increasing electricity rates, it has now become even more important to be environmentally aware and find and use renewable energy solutions. These solutions should not only regulate the temperatures in our homes and save us money, but also allow us to minimise our use of energy resources in order to live a more sustainable life. One way of doing this is to make use of eco-friendly solutions in construction, i.e. insulation products such as insulation membranes or radiant barriers, thereby reducing heat transfer by thermal radiation. Eco Shield TM is such a product.
The permanent solution
Eco Shield TM radiant barrier is a reflective insulation system offering a permanent way to absorb and transfer heat through our roofs. It is used in the roof construction of residential, commercial and industrial buildings to reduce heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter, thus adding to our comfort levels when indoors and minimising the usage of energy for heating or cooling.
The flame retardant solution
Eco Shield TM is aesthetically attractive when applied under metal roofs. It is flame retardant and carries the SANS 1381-4 mark Class E. It has been classified as class B/B1/2/H which means it has a superior flame retardancy. This makes it suitable for use in any structure with a B1 rating with sprinklers.
Tear resistance prevents expansion
Eco Shield radiant barrier has a strong tear resistance and will not expand when in contact with changing roof temperatures. This makes the product dimensionally stable and easy to work with.
Radiant Barrier
How does it work?
A radiant barrier is a reflective insulation system used in construction to transfer the heat that has been absorbed by the roof, resulting in a warmer or cooler interior depending on the ambient temperature. Traditional insulating materials such as fibreglass, cellulose and styrofoam, insulate by using their ability to slow down the rate of convective and conductive transfer of the heat absorbed by the roof. Radiant barrier insulation systems however have high reflectivity and low emissivity and greatly reduce the amount of heat absorbed by the roof. These characteristics of a radiant barrier inhibit heat transfer by thermal radiation, making its emissivity less than 0.05 resulting in blocking off (reflecting) as much as 97 percent of all radiant energy.

Industrial DSD
Eco Shield™ DSD is a six-layer laminate consisting of two outer layers of aluminium foil, one layer of spunbond, one layer of reinforcing scrim and two layers of laminating polyethylene.
Insububble
Eco Shield™ Insububble is a four layer laminate which utilises the foil layer for reflective insulation, a laminating layer, a spunbond layer for stability, strength and thermal insulation and the polyethylene bubble layer for additional insulation.
Ultra Double Foil
Eco Shield™ Ultra Double Foil is a five-layer laminate which carries the SANS 1381-4 mark Class C. It has been used extensively as an insulation membrane under tiled and metal roofs.
Ultra Single Foil
Eco Shield™ Ultra Single Foil has been developed specifically for use under roof tiles and is certified under SANS 1381-4 Class D. The aluminium foil layer will not radiate or emit heat downwards and the product is applied with the aluminium surface facing down towards the interior of the building.
UT Woven Undertile membrane
Eco Shield™ UT Woven Undertile membrane is a new woven polypropylene membrane that has been specifically formulated for use under roof tiles. It is 350 (micrometer) in thickness and made in rolls of 1,5 x 30 m.
